Friday Night League Sixers nip Celtics
by TOM AMODIE

The Sixers out-pointed the Celtics 7-0 on the overtime period, went on to a 51-44 win and an undefeated start to their season. Both Celtic losses have been in overtime.

The Sixers led 4-2 after the first quarter and 21-13 at the break. Anthony Johnson scored eight of his 19 points in the second frame while Rahmel Hamilton scored eight of his game high of 20 in the first half.

The Celtics cut into their deficit in the third stanza on threes by Mike Gibbs and Justin Berg. A wide open fourth quarter saw Gibbs, Sam Mercuris and Kyle George all hit threes for the Celtics while Johnson hit a pair of his own for the Sixers. Hamilton hit for six points in the quarter to force overtime. Gibbs paced the Celtics in scoring with 10.

The Sixers defeated the Hawks (46-33) the previous week as Hamilton bagged 18 and O’Shane Black scored 12 for the winners.

The Celtics topped the Pistons (61-39) the week before as Gibbs muscled in 15 while Mercuris drained 12.

Josh Stevens buried 30 points as the Heat edged the Spurs 51-45. Bryant Hawthorne had a baker’s dozen to guide the Spurs.

In their previous game the Heat dropped a 40-33 decision to the Kings despite 14 points from Michael McNally.

As he did the week before versus the Heat, Josh Goldenberg hit a clutch fourth quarter basket as the Kings squeaked by the Lakers 35-32. Both teams played without key players, the Kings without Jesse Biddle and the Lakers without Noz Wynn for three quarters. Goldenberg finished with 14, while Arthur Borgeroff netted 12 for the winners. Marcelo Osorio-Soto paced the Lakers with 13.

Matt Primavera dialed up 16 points, including four threes as the Pistons got by the Hawks, 35-33. Jordan Dean had 11 for the winners after scoring 22 the week before versus the Celtics.
