Obituaries
Eleanor Cálves
Mrs. Cálves graduated from the Waynflete Latin School, Dana Hall, and attended Wellesley College. She was the first woman pilot in the state of Maine. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Outdoor Gardener’s, and a former member of the Sedgeley Club. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished bridge player and a frequent world traveler, having traveled to over 100 countries. Mrs. Cálves is survived by her sons, Herbert E. Jr., of Charlotte, N.C. and Robert H., of Kilmarnock, Va. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Jean C. Hemphill of Oxford, Md.; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren. Services and burial at Bringhurst Funeral Home at West Laurel Hill Cemetery are private.
