A Thanks - giving story by Carole Boynton, Interim Editor This is the season to be thankful. We all know that. My son Frank and his family, his wife Shana, granddaughter Molly, 2-1/2, and son Frank, five months old, were supposed to fly in from California last Thursday. We were asked to buy a car seat, a potty (which, on second thought should have gone near the cat litter box so the aromas would blend) and enough food to fill 12 shopping bags. So, picture me schlepping packs of diapers, boxes of apple-flavored oatmeal, mac and cheese, apple juice, vegetables and potatoes. Did I mention they’re vegetarians? They would be here for two weeks. Consequently, a lot of food was purchased and do-ahead meals made and frozen. Myriad plans were made and then things changed. I accepted this wanted-for-years position at the Local and The Husband was subbing at The Shawmont School. Since my son and family were primarily coming to see The Husband and me, and we would be out all day, my son asked if it wouldn’t be better for all concerned if they postponed the trip until the summer. We said that would be fine. I hate to put pressure on anyone, even my son. Just between us, I think they also wanted to get out and see friends alone, with grandpa and grandma Carole bonding at home with the grandkids. So what I really want to know is what do I now do with 30 pounds of surplus potatoes?
