Money for Parking Study

CHCA approves new interim editor

Recent past occurrences at the Chestnut Hill Local, both authenticated and alleged, were discussed with intensity at the monthly meeting of the Chestnut Hill Community Association in the Hiram Lodge on Thursday evening, November 17. In addition to 29 board members (out of a possible 50), some members of The Local staff and a dozen or so other concerned citizens were present.

Time runs out on other big issues at CHCA’s board meeting

It might not be apparent from all the brouhaha that has surrounded the Chestnut Hill Community Association’s handling or mishandling of The Local, but other matters are also discussed at CHCA board meetings, and the board oversees many projects that are important to the community. At the November 17 board meeting, which was especially contentious with many charges flying back and forth having to do with the board’s treatment of The Local staff, so much time was spent on the matter that several projects currently being promoted by the board got rather short shrift.

Sculptor Joseph Winter, carving a new niche

Award-winning Chestnut Hill sculptor, Sherl Joseph Winter, has been appointed to the Citizens Commemorative Coin Advisory Committee in Washington, D.C. The committee advises the Secretary of the Treasury on theme and design proposals relating to circulation coinage, congressional gold medals and other medals produced by the United States Mint.

Germantown Avenue Bridge over Wissahickon Creek

The Germantown Avenue Bridge over Wissahickon Creek in Philadelphia is a three span curved steel girder bridge that was designed to safely replace a falling nine span straight bridge.... In 1997, several undermined piers cracked and, after emergency repairs, vehicular traffic was restricted to one-way next to the downstream edge of the deck.... A new, horizontally curved roadway alignment replaced the existing sharp bend to improve roadway safety.
