“Soup and Clay and A Lot of Love”
7th Annual Empty Bowl Dinner at Chestnut Hill College

Chestnut Hill College, in conjunction with Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (NPIHN), will sponsor its 7th Annual Empty Bowl Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Rotunda of St. Joseph Hall at 9601 Germantown Ave.

This popular event helps to raise funds and awareness of hunger and homelessness, locally and worldwide. Last year’s dinner served well over 600 attendees and raised almost $7,000 - “all from soup and clay and a lot of love,” said Rachel Falkove, executive director of the NPIHN, a group of more than 22 area congregations whose mission is to provide food and shelter to local homeless families.

Chestnut Hill College students volunteer as servers for the evening, where dinner attendees can choose a bowl and sample soups, breads and desserts donated by more than 30 neighborhood restaurants and caterers. The empty bowls may then be taken home as a reminder of the millions who face each day with an empty bowl. The handcrafted ceramic bowls have been designed and donated by professional potters and students from the Chestnut Hill College Summer Arts Camp, Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, Montgomery County Community College, Frankford High School, Penn Charter, the Springside School and the Germantown Jewish Center.

The event will offer holiday sales of the interfaith network’s one-of-a-kind enameled house pins, and collection boxes for old cell-phone collection and printer cartridge recycling. Many former guest families of the network will also be on hand to reconnect with those who helped them during their homelessness.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students and children. For more information, call 215-248-7095. Free parking is available at Chestnut Hill College.
