Senior Center News
Hear ye! Hear ye! The Chestnut Hill Senior Center invites the community to join our members for excursions during the fall.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19, travel to beautiful Perkasie and the home of Pearl S. Buck (noted philanthropist and author of The Good Earth). Tour the house and grounds, enjoy a gourmet Chinese luncheon and the fall foliage. Your cost ($55 for center members, $65 non-members) includes all fees, gratuities and transportation to and from the Senior Center. On Saturday, Nov. 12 take a trolley into Center City and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (celebrating its 200th anniversary this year). Tour the galleries and eat lunch in their cafe. Once again, the price ($40 members, $50 non-members) is all-inclusive.
As always, the community is invited to attend the Senior Center’s special Tuesday and Friday programs. This Friday (Sept. 9), for instance, is your opportunity to meet the editor of the Local, Jim Sturdivant, and ask your questions about running a community newspaper and how the readers, the Senior Center and the paper can help each other. On Tuesday, Sept. 20 following lunch served by the board of directors (RSVP needed no later than Sept. 15), storyteller Jill Kohles will regale our audience with tales befitting Benjamin Franklin’s 300th birthday. These special programs begin at 1 p.m., and there is no charge to attend.
The Chestnut Hill Community Association supports our Senior Center, whose members come from Chestnut Hill and all surrounding communities. The Center is open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is located at 7999 Crittenden St. The phone number is 215-248-0180.
