Lt. Kenneth W. Greene Sr., 60, of Mt. Airy, a Philadelphia firefighter who worked at Engine Co. 37 in Chestnut Hill, died Sept. 14 at Einstein Hospital, where he was taken after becoming ill while on duty Sept. 3.

Lt. Greene, a 23-year veteran of the Fire Department, had been assigned to Engine 37 for the past four years and was officer in charge of B Platoon. In 2007, his unit received a citation for helping to rescue two people from a house fire in the Brewerytown section of the city

Born in Virginia, he was raised in West Philadelphia and served in the Army after graduating from Germantown High School. He studied business administration at Temple University.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 2001 W. Lehigh Ave., in Philadelphia. A viewing will be held at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept 29, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be Monday, Oct. 2, in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, Va. – WF
