Without mustering quite the same number of players it had on hand the previous week for the Gwynedd Mercy Academy Summer League, Germantown Academy was still able to post a 35-25 victory over Lansdale Catholic High School last Tuesday night. Penn Charter also competes in this league, but the Quakers had no games scheduled last week.

In the early minutes on Tuesday it was evident that the Patriots were not as pumped up for this game as they were in their previous summer outing against Central Bucks West. The Crusaders, who have some talent and play well together, hung right with GA for the first nine minutes. At this point, Germantown held a 5-4 edge stemming from a lay-up off an offensive rebound by forward Emily Morrissey and a three-pointer from the top of the key by her classmate, guard Rachel Balzer.

The score remained 5-4 through most of the minutes that five GA subs were out on the floor, though at the end of this stretch incoming freshman forward Jessica Moore banked in a 12-foot shot from the lane. With Balzer and sophomore guard Maddie Vizza returning to the court to hit three-pointers, the Patriots began to pull away smartly.

Later in the first period Moore made another field goal and put in two free throws to help set up the Pats with an 18-5 halftime lead.

Balzer kicked off the second-half scoring with a lay-up in transition, and she knocked down a "three" about six minutes in. Germantown also got two regular field goals from senior Alexa Naessens and one from sophomore Elle Stauffer (both forwards), enjoying a 29-14 lead midway through the second half.

Lansdale Catholic kept playing hard and was able to reduce its deficit later on. After Balzer's fourth three-point field goal of the night, the Crusaders used lay-ups and free throws to get the gap down to eight points (32-24) with under four minutes left. GA held the line after that, emerging with a 10-point victory.

Balzer finished with 14 points for the winners, while Naessens turned in seven points and five rebounds, and Moore contributed six points.
