Leroy Wilson, a handyman who did work in the East Mt. Airy home of Regina Holmes, was convicted of her murder last Friday, May 5.

Holmes, 85, who was killed on June 27, 2015, was a longtime employee of the Chestnut Hill Local. Her family discovered her body when she failed to show up for work on a day she was scheduled.

Wilson, 39, was sentenced by Judge Glenn B. Bronson to a life sentence without possibility of parole, the mandatory sentence for first degree murder in Pennsylvania. Wilson was also sentenced to an addition 22.5 to 45 year prison term for related convictions on robbery, burglary and weapons charges.

Holmes’ family had asked the District Attorney’s office not to seek the death penalty for Wilson, a request to which the office agreed.

“I want to say to the family that I’m sorry for their loss and my prayers go out to them,” said Wilson according to the Philadelphia Inquirer “I forgive those who have misjudged me.”

Wilson has insisted since his arrest that he did not kill Holmes but that she was murdered by others. There was no evidence that anyone other than Wilson was in Holmes’ home on the day of her murder. He said in court that he intended to appeal his sentence.
