The Philadelphia Sinfonia Players, the intermediate-level youth orchestra of the Philadelphia Sinfonia Association, will present a free concert featuring several area students at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the First Presbyterian Church of Germantown, 35 W. Chelten Ave.
The concert, conducted by Gary White, PSA's music director and former chair of the Germantown Friends School music department, and Daniele Garrett, assistant conductor, will feature Schubert's “Symphony No. 3 in D major” and smaller works by Jacques Offenbach, Oskar Nedbal and Astor Piazzola.
The orchestra will be joined by guest clarinet soloist Allison Herz in a performance of the third movement of Carl Maria von Weber's “Concerto No. 1 in F minor for Clarinet and Orchestra.”
The Philadelphia Sinfonia Players is composed of 70 highly talented musicians from the tri-state area, ranging in age from 11 to 18. Area students include Maddie Goldsborough and Eli Kushner, of Mt. Airy; Grace Flickinger, of Roxborough; Felix Li, of Ambler; Andrew Chen and Annagh Devitt, of Fort Washington; and Eric Mitchell, of Glenside. While admission to the concert is free, a free-will offering will be taken during intermission.
