9th Ward results: Rabb wins 200th, voters favor Clinton, Kasich

Ninth Ward voters helped power an unexpected victory for Mt. Airy resident’ Chris Rabb who secured the Democratic nomination to run for the state’s 200th House seat in November. Rabb collected 47 percent of the vote in the district, beating incumbent Tonyelle Cook-Artis by 7 points.  His margin in the 9th Ward, however was far greater, securing 79 percent of the vote to Cook-Artis’ 13.  Of the 10,114 total votes he received, 4,022 were cast in the 9th Ward. 2nd congressional race The 9th Ward was not as influential in the 2nd District U.S. Congressional race in which Dwight Evans captured the Democratic nomination. Ninth Ward voters favored Mt. Airy attorney and 9th ward leader Dan Muroff, who picked up 46 percent to Evans’ 31. Evans won 42 percent of the vote, beating incumbent Chaka Fattah – who is currently facing multiple charges of fraud and theft – by 8 points. Muroff collected 10 percent of the votes in the district. Other races 9th Ward voters largely followed state and city trends in turning out majority votes for presidential Democratic primary winner Hillary Clinton, Democratic Attorney General nominee Josh Shapiro and Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Kate McGinty. The only other exception was in the Republican Primary in which 9th Ward voters favored Ohio Gov. John Kasich to front-runner Donald Trump, 52 percent to 30. Republican voter registration is not high n the 9th Ward and only 714 votes cast in total for Republican candidates compared to 5,862 votes for Democratic candidates. 9th Ward Results (names in blue indicate statewide winner, an * indicates the ward winner).
