Germantown Friends School students, faculty and staff are presenting a homerun production of the classic Broadway musical, “Damn Yankees.”
Performances are this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 10, 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. in GFS’s Loeb Performing Arts Center. All are welcome and donations, benefiting the drama program, will be accepted at the door.
The show is about a lifelong Washington Senators fan who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for the ability to lead his beloved Senators past the Yankees to an American League pennant.
“It has been really interesting to see faculty and staff step out of their normal roles and join us onstage,” said senior Abigail Gard. “Working together on Damn Yankees has really enhanced the sense of equality and community we strive for at GFS.”
“It’s great to see a math teacher dancing and singing with you,” adds senior Jay Thachet. “This type of collaboration is important because it fosters a friendly relationship between teachers and students and gives each group better insight into the talents of the other.”
The production stars GFS seniors Abigail Gard, Jay Thachet and Noah Shipley; sophomores David Harvey and Simon Rabinowitz; along with a cast of faculty and staff. The production is directed by drama department head Lisa Burns and features fantastic music and choreography, including a number by professional dancer Yosbel Delgado.
