What a proud weekend it was for the Chestnut Hill Community Fund Drive and our friends on the Avenue. I was there to make the first donation on behalf of the Chestnut Hill Community Association Board and witness the last donation by Dwight and Regina Carter of Germantown who rushed over to donate $50 in coins in the final seconds, allowing us to surpass our goal. Thank you to everyone who participated in our fund-raising event.
We partnered with TD Bank and the Friends of Children’s Park in Chestnut Hill to bolster community giving during our current Chestnut Hill Community Fund Drive campaign. As part of TD Bank’s “Bring Change” campaign, the Penny Arcade at the TD Bank in Chestnut Hill collected coins on Feb. 26-29 to support one of our most popular neighborhood parks – Children’s Park (in front of J.S. Jenks School).
From all aspects, the weekend fund-raiser was a success. We showcased our “Chestnut Hill spirit” and were able to meet our goal of raising $4,000 for the park’s repairs. Funds raised included a $2,000 matching donation from TD Bank. NBC10 stopped by twice to showcase the park and children making donations from their piggy banks.
Thanks to NBC10 and Chestnut Hill Local coverage, many more people are now aware that it is a Friends group that takes care of the park and that it needs our combined support to make sure this neighborhood gem is protected.
I found stories of neighborhood kids giving very moving and an example of selfless charity for all of us. Noteworthy were Catherine Grogan a student at OMC and member of Teenagers Inc., who donated $219, and Denis Lattani, a student at Jenks who donated $153.37 and was also featured on NBC10.
The Friends of the Children’s Park has been the stewards of the playground at Jenks since 1997, when hundreds of Chestnut Hill residents and business owners raised money and gathered to construct the wooden castle-like playground in an exciting 11-day community-build.
If you were unable to donate in person at the TD Bank Bring Change event, you can make a contribution to the Fund Drive in person or by mail to CHCF at 8434 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia 19118, or online at www.chestnuthill.org, or contact Noreen Spota at 215-248-8810.
