In Disney's “Beauty and the Beast” Paige Hodges of Gladwyne, Meredith Chernak of Chestnut Hill, and Max Monheit of Rydal, lead the cast of Penn Charter’s production.
Hodges and Chernak portray Belle, a young woman in a provincial town. Monheit plays the Beast who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. All three students are seniors.
The show, which runs from Feb. 19 to 21, is Penn Charter’s all-school musical which students in grades 4-12 perform every three years. It features lavish costumes, an ornate set and months of preparation.
“ more than 120 students ages 9-19 pulling together for this spectacular production,” said director and theater manager Jessica Bender. “They're doing some exciting work that you won't want to miss.”
Students, some new to musical productions and other veteran performers, are making the most of this opportunity to sing, act, dance and play an instrument in the orchestra pit of fifteen student musicians and five adults.
The curtain goes up Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale through penncharter.com/kurtcal. $10 adults; $8 students.
