The Philadelphia Water Department is replacing water and sewer mains in the area of Benezet and Ardleigh streets, where last February a gas leak caused an explosion inside a two-story apartment building.
Construction began this past spring. PWD said water and sewer mains are being replaced from Germantown Ave. to Wyndmoor Ave. via Benezet St. Benezet St. is currently closed to through traffic, while traffic is limited on Ardleigh St. PWD will fill and repave the trenches in the roads when the project is complete.
The original completion date was Dec. 13, 2015, but PWD said construction may not be finished until winter 2016.
Note: The first version of this post erroneously credited the work to the Philadelphia Gas Department.
