Robert J. Johnston, 92 of Wyndmoor, a retired corporate executive and a decorated veteran of World War II, died of pneumonia Aug. 22 at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Mr. Johnston retired in 1982 as vice president of the Foote Mineral Co. in Exton, where he had been employed for nearly three decades. Earlier he had worked for Merck Sharp & Dohme.

He had served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the personal staff of Gen. Douglas McArthur. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Raised in Chestnut Hill, he was a graduate of J.S. Jenks Elementary School, Germantown High School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by a son, Robert Johnston, of McLean, Va.; a stepson, David Schofield, of DeLand, Fla; a brother William Johnston, of Lafayette Hill; his companion, Joan Lovett, of Wyndmoor, and a granddaughter. Mr. Johnston's wives, Joan Millar Johnston and Margaret Schofield Johnston, and a daughter, Gail Johnston Weinstein, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, 8855 Germantown Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19118, Memorial donations may be made to the above church. – WF
