Former Hill resident Jessie Beer recently took 2nd place in the Cheesemonger Invitational in San Francisco. The contest challenged participants to taste cheese pairings and other recipes to identify the cheeses used.
Beer, who may be familiar to customers of the Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop on Germantown Avenue, where she worked for may years, moved to Boulder, Col. a few years ago and began working at a specialty cheese store there called Cured. She became manager of the store in 2014.
According to Beer's father, Michael, Cured owners encouraged Beer to enter the contest this year. In addition to a cash prize, she will get to tour the Vermont Cheese industry for a weekend.
Beer is a certified cheese professional as defined and granted by the American Cheese Society.
