Germantown Friends School hosted a Tribute Concert in honor of beloved former GFS music and history teacher and nationally acclaimed Ragtime pianist Don Kawash. Performers will include: Obie Award winner Michael Friedman ’93 (formerly of Chestnut Hill), David Buffum ’88 (formerly of Chestnut Hill), Larry Hoenig (Mount Airy), Keisha Hutchins ’93 (formerly of Mount Airy), Alex Levin ’93 (formerly of Olney) and Miles Thompson ’81 (Mount Airy). The concert will feature selected Ragtime, Gershwin, Porter and original works honoring Kawash’s life, incredible talent and inspiring teaching.
“Don meant so much to me as a teacher, mentor and friend,” Thompson said. “I am still making music with my band, and I am proud to say that he continues to influence my life, both musically and in my job as a counselor.”
The concert was held on Sunday, September 28, in the Loeb Performing Arts Center at Germantown Friends School.
