Barbara Wiltbank Allen passed away peacefully on May 25, 2014 in Wilsonville, OR. Barbara was born on April 26, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA, to George Earl and Eleanor (Louise) Stone Wiltbank. Barbara graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1942, and Wellesley College in 1946. She was married to Charles Maxwell Allen on May 27, 1947 in Philadelphia, PA and spent 67 years by his side. Barbara was the proud and wonderful mother of four daughters, grandmother of seven, and great grandmother of four with three more on the way. Her daughters thank her for her unconditional love and her belief that they could achieve anything they wanted to – while always letting them know that what was most important to her was that they be happy in whatever they do. Barbara attended every one of her daughters’ sporting events, field trips, plays and concerts, and happily came to help out after the births of her grandchildren. She was an integral part of any community she lived in and a volunteer extraordinaire who loved working with children. She also loved taking walks, particularly with her dogs. After many years as a stay at home mom she worked as a substitute teacher, teacher’s assistant and preschool teacher of three year olds. She was a wonderful cook, knitter and seamstress and kept all of her girls well dressed in her beautiful creations. She will be sorely missed by her husband Charles, her daughters Barbara Purinton, Beth Craigie, Debbie Foltyn, and Jennifer Allen and their families; her sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Ned Spaeth and their family; and all who knew her in Philadelphia, Hanover, NH, and Portland, OR. Memorial gifts may be sent in Barbara’s memory to Germantown Friends School, 31 W. Coulter Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19144, or made online at www.germantownfriends.org.
