Frances Hanson, 93, a longtime community volunteer, died May 13 at her home in Chestnut Hill.

Mrs. Hanson had been active for many years with Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels and the Rummage Sale at St. Paul's Church, where she was a member.

Raised in Mt. Airy, the daughter of Dr. Sidney Joseph Repplier and Charlotte Neall Repplier, she attended the Shady Hill Country Day School and graduated from Germantown Friends School. She attended Pine Manor Junior College and was a graduate of the Pierce School of Business.

During World War II she volunteered with the USO. In the 1940s she worked at the Curtis Publishing Co. in Philadelphia as secretary to the foreign editor of the Saturday Evening Post.

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Lyman Hanson, Mrs. Hanson is survived by daughters, Sarah Ellis and Barbara Markloff; sons Peter, David and Geoffrey; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at ll a.m. Friday, May 23, at the Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting, 20 East Mermaid Lane in Chestnut Hill. Memorial donations may be made to Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels, 8765 Stenton Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19038. – WF
