First hospital in Chestnut Hill
I saw the picture in the Chestnut Hill Local of the Mower General Hospital, created during the civil war, and it reminded me that Robertson’s building at 8501 Germantown Ave. was a hospital during the Revolutionary War. At that time it was the Inn of Henry Cress. I would guess that was the first hospital in Chestnut Hill!
Our building is well documented, and we have a number of antique relics that were rescued during various renovations since 1950. The top step entering the Conservatory, now leased by Cake, is actually a stone mantle we found behind a wall and used it for the entrance step. Keep up the good work in Chestnut Hill.
