The CHYSC is a community organization devoted to providing team sports for our children, most of whom are from Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill, but also are from nearby communities including Germantown, Roxborough, Oak Lane, Whitemarsh, Erdenheim, Lafayette Hill, Wyndmoor, Flourtown and Oreland.

More than 1,300 children participate annually. CHYSC offers organized group sports year-round for boys and girls, ages 5 to 18, regardless of their skill level. Girls are encouraged to play on boys’ teams as long as they feel comfortable.

The physical center of the CHYSC is the Water Tower Recreation Center of the Philadelphia Recreation Department, at Hartwell Lane and Ardleigh Street, ZIP 19118. Contact CHYSC, Dennis Primavera, at drprimavera@aol.com. The club office is located at the Water Tower, and the organization enjoys the use of the basketball gym and the two baseball fields.

CHYSC also uses playing fields and gyms of a half-dozen local schools and institutions including Chestnut Hill Academy and the Springside School. Team sports include Baseball, basketball, soccer and lacrosse. Teams are generally based on age and players of all skill levels are welcome.

The major difference between the CHYSC and most suburban and smaller urban programs is that they must pay for the use of nearly all the fields and gyms they use.

In addition, the CHYSC uses the Water Tower fields as its home for many of its core activities and therefore the responsibility for much of the field maintenance and upkeep is the club's. This winter’s storms have created substantial damage to the playing fields. Although CHYSC relies heavily on volunteer support for field maintenance, it does need professional restoration as well.

The Chestnut Hill Community Fund wants to continue funding support for this very important service to residents in Chestnut Hill, northwest Philadelphia and beyond.
