It's not officially autumn until Chestnut Hill holds its annual Fall for the Arts Festival. Now in its 29th year, the 2013 festival included a glass-blowing demonstration, live music and performances on two stages featuring Zydeco a Go Go, Dukes of Destiny, Stone Age, Rich Posmontier Ensemble and Delaware Valley Branch – Royal Scottish Dancers.
For the kids, there was a rock-climbing wall, moonbounce, pumpkin painting, face painting, arts and crafts, a magic show and free Peanuts Express train rides.
There were plenty of tantalizing treats. Foodies enjoyed Al fresco dining and fun festival foods – funnel cakes, cotton candy and kettle corn, and all the Hill restaurants participated in this year's event.
“This year’s Fall for the Arts Festival provided a great time for the thousands of folks that came out to enjoy the art, music, food and festivities,” said Peggy Miller, of the Chestnut Hill Business Association. “Even the rain that appeared at the end of the day couldn’t dampen the fun. Now we’re switching gears and getting ready for our Harry Potter Festival that takes place October 18 and 19. [We're] looking forward to seeing everyone then.”
Miller said this year's festival featured several new local exhibitors including Elizabeth Cantanese, of Chestnut Hill, who displayed mixed media acrylic, and Brian James, also of Chestnut Hill, who displayed his photography.
The winners of this year's Fall for the Arts Festival were Lara Cantu-Hertzler, best-in-show and first-prize in oils; Pigs Alley Gallery, second-prize in oils; Keith Mountford, first-prize in watercolors; Gene Pembroke; first-prize in Photography; Rich Killion, second-prize in photography; C.M. Maniet's Pencil Smudge, first prize in drawing/illustrations; Greg Stoner, first-prize in crafts, and Fredericka, second-prize in crafts.
