Irish Music and Dance Festival this weekend

The 39th Annual Irish Traditional Music and Dance Festival, sponsored by the Philadelphia Ceili Group, will be held from Sept. 12-14 at the Irish Center, 6815 Emlen St. in Mt. Airy.

The three-day festival will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, with an evening of Irish song hosted by Gerry Timlin and featuring some of the best singers of Irish songs in the region.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, there will be a ceili dance with live music provided by the the McGillians and Friends, one of the best ceili bands in the tri-state area.

The Saturday, Sept. 14, program, starting at 11 a.m., will feature live music and instrumental workshops at all levels for all ages offered by world-class musicians and workshops in singing, both in Irish and English. The 7 p.m. evening concert will mark the Philadelphia premiere of Tony DeMarco’s Atlantic Wave, along with a stellar lineup that includes Nuala Kenedy and Eamon O’Leary.
