On several of the summer's remaining Tuesday afternoons, the CHCE living room will become a theater, showing films old and new ("Argo" on July 23, "Footloose" on Aug. 6, "March of the Penguins"on Aug. 20, viewers' choice – Sept. 3).[/caption]

So, we're having a summer after all! But where have you been? Did you take refuge in an air conditioned house or shopping mall or car after July 1? You could have been out in the garden every waking moment since June's daily cool soaking rains gave way to unrelenting heat – it's a jungle out there.

Perhaps your house has turned into a motel-wannabe with a succession of friends, family and other visitors. You might simply be home, recovering from your own travels. Or, if your vacation is yet to come, you could just be getting bored and restless. Whatever your personal circumstances, the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment is here to help.

On several of summer's remaining Tuesday afternoons the CHCE living room will become a theater, showing films old and new ("Argo" on July 23, "Footloose" on Aug. 6, "March of the Penguins"on Aug. 20, viewers' choice – Sept. 3). Enjoy the movies for free on our new HDTV, along with snacks (donations are always welcome), good company and air-conditioning.

A good number of Center for Enrichment offerings continue once a week all through the summer, and you are invited to drop in whenever you can: Monday (crafts, drawing/sketching, French conversation); Tuesday mornings (watercolors); Bridge on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon; Play reading Thursday mornings; and Scrabble, folk dance and knitting (all on Friday).

Contact the Center for Enrichment office (215-248-0180 or email the.chce@verizon.net) for all the details. Or just drop in at 8431 Germantown Ave., side entrance (between Highland and Gravers) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The CHCE is fortunate that so many adults of all ages, from so many neighborhoods across northwest Philadelphia and eastern Montgomery County, have found entertainment, information and friendship within our walls. The center continues to embrace suggestions for activities from CHCE members and friends. Bring us an idea, and we will try to accommodate by letting you lead the new program.
