The Kindergarten and first grade students of Enfield Elementary were delighted and surprised to have Mystery Readers appear in their classrooms on March 20th to read them stories.
The 2nd Annual Mystery Reader Morning was organized by Enfield librarian Nora Neumann and is one event in a series in March that celebrates the joy of reading.
All Mystery readers were members of the Springfield Township community and school district. Readers included policemen, firefighters, a judge and a National Park Service ranger. Also in attendance were members of the school board, a librarian, local business owners and parents of the children.
All readers arrived at 9:30 a.m. and were directed to their classroom where they read one or two stories and answered questions. According to Firefighter Gene Rahill, “The kids will remember this day forever.”
Mystery readers included: Mr. and Mrs. Bernie McLafferty, National Park Service Ranger Ed Welch, Dr. Nancy Hacker, Lowell Cunningham (Driver of Bus 12), Fire Marshall Chuck Bailey, Firefighter Dave Brierley, Lieutenant Donald Fantry, Officer Sam Boone, Walter Lapidus, Malcolm Gran, Firefighter Tom Hasty, John Cawley, Janice Smith, Fire Fighter Gene Rahill, Gretchen Slapinsky, Chaplain of the Flourtown Fire Company Marcia Thompson, Amy Amble, Springfield Township Children’s Libraian, and the Honorable Kate McGill.
Many of the people who came to read to the children had come last year and were happy to be back. Neumann would like to thank all Mystery Readers for giving their time to the children of Enfield.
