The Chestnut Hill Local has learned last Friday that it won three awards in the 2013 Keystone Press Awards sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association.

Associate editor Sue Ann Rybak won a first place award for her series on adults with Autism. That series consisted of four pieces and ran between July and August. The titles were: “Autistic workers' freedom threatened by budget cuts,” “The adult face of Autism,” “First responders and autism: Averting a crisis” and “Chestnut Hill College to offer professional autism programs.”

Rybak also won a second-place award for her feature story “Lost Boy of Sudan speaks for unheard children.”

Local humor columnist Jim Harris won first place for a trio of columns: “Hoping war between Hill and Mt. Airy can be ended,” “Sadly our area is chalk-ful of idiotic government officials,” “Good chain store service, anyone? Not bloody likely.”

It is the first Keystone Award for both writers.
