Diane Carlson, 68, formerly of Mt. Airy, a businesswoman and community activist, died Nov.30 of breast cancer at her home in Phoenixville.

While living in Mt. Airy in the 1990s, Ms. Carlson founded and was executive director of Gatherings of Businesswomen, an organization that coached female business owners on how to be successful.

She also was an active board member of what was then Northwest Interfaith Network. Her mentor and housemate was Maggie Kuhn, founder of the Gray Panthers.

After moving to Phoenixville in 2006 with her life partner Judy Antipin, she became active in community affairs. She was a member of the Phoenixville Area Time Bank, a group that enables the bartering of services and activities.

Born in Minneapolis, she earned a bachelor's degree from Christian College/Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minn. She moved to Philadelphia in the 1970s and became the owner of several small technology and gerontology businesses.

In addition to her life partner, Ms. Carlson is survived by three sisters.

A memorial service was held Dec. 15 at the Imago Dei Community Church in Glen Mills. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Center at Phoenixville Hospital, 824 Main St., Suite 101, Phoenixville, PA.
