MOUNT SOPHOMORE FOURTH AT STATES - Mount St. Joseph Academy sophomore Isabella DiLisio, the PIAA District 1 Class AAA champion, finished fourth at the 2012 state championships, held last Monday and Tuesday in York, Pa.

DiLisio, who came in third at the tourney last year, complied a two-day total score of 149. With a score of 140 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort, Council Rock North High School junior Erica Herr repeated as state champion, and once again the runner-up, with a score of 147, was Pennsbury High’s Jackie Rogowicz, now a sophomore. In between Rogowicz and DiLisio this year was Lauren Waller (148) of Canon McMillan High School, outside of Pittsburgh.

In the state team championships on Wednesday, Radnor High School once again proved that the hardest task all season for a District 1 team is winning the District championship, while the Mounties sat home gnashing their teeth in frustration.

Radnor’s Red Raiders edged past Mount St. Joe by just four strokes at the district tournament, and last week they wound up winning the state crown by 16 strokes (325-341) over District 7 titlist Penn Trafford. In 2011, Radnor beat the Magic by two strokes at Districts, then won the state crown by 55.

SCH HOSTS LEAGUE TOURNEY - While the PIAA teams were competing in York last Wednesday, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy was hosting the individual boys championships for the Inter-Ac League at par-72 Sunnybrook Golf Club.

There were top-10 finishes for both Germantown Academy sophomore Jake Neidosik, who was part of a three-way tie for fourth place with a round of 78, and for SCH eighth-grader Chris Dalglish, who carded an 80 to join a four-way tie for eighth place.

Haverford School won all six “regular season” team tournaments this fall, so it wasn’t surprising that the Fords qualified the most players for the individual tourney and produced the best results. Junior Cole Berman repeated as Inter-Ac champion, coming in on-par with a 72, and Haverford had senior Scott Jaster finish as runner-up with a 76, and sophomore Jay Losty in third with a 77.

Losty’s name may be familiar to LOCAL readers because his sister, Margaux, is a junior on the Penn Charter tennis and squash teams. In the golf tourney last week, PC senior Erin Lo competed with the boys and acquitted herself well, as her score of 83 tied her for 12th place with SCH junior Jack Grasso.

Five of the Girls Inter-Ac League schools field their own golf teams, which play in the spring season. PC and GA do not have girls teams, but do have nominally “coed” golf teams in the fall. Lo was the only girl at either school to take advantage of the opportunity this fall.

Two more seniors for the Quakers, Luke Angelakis and Andrew Glatz, tied for 15th place at Sunnybrook, with scores of 85. The fourth PC player at the event, sophomore J.B. Bradbeer, shot an 86 to end up in a three way tie for 17th with Alex Dupre of Episcopal and Max

Siegfried of Haverford. GA seniors Lane Udis (87) and Robert Greenawalt (92), placed 20th and 24th, respectively.

The top-10 finishers not already mentioned were Haverford senior Timmy Brooks and Malvern sophomore Michael Lamond, who tied for fourth place with GA’s Neidosik, Episcopal sophomore Joe Chambers (alone in seventh with a 79), and the three golfers who shared eighth place with Dalglish of SCH; Episcopal’s Sean Fahey and Malvern’s Brendan Papariello (both seniors), and Haverford junior Ryan Tetrault.
