An armed man dressed in woman's clothing and a wig entered the Delphine Gallery, 8435 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday and robbed the store of $50,000 in jewelry.
Officer Christine O'Brien, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department, said the man pointed a gray-colored gun at a female employee and ordered her to the ground. According to O'Brien, when the woman attempted to speak, O'Brien said he threatened to shoot her.
The employee described the robber as an African American male, 5'10, with a medium build, 25-30 years of age. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a long dark navy blue dress and a shoulder-length braided wig. The robber wore a white silk mask over his face.
The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot northbound on Germantown Avenue and then eastbound on Highland Street.
Police believe he may have fled the scene with another male in a light green Ford Explorer.
O'Brien said the robber made off with $50,000 in jewelery.
Delphine Gallery doesn't have any surveillance cameras in the store. Police are hoping to obtain surveillance video from businesses in the neighborhood.
