Williamson breaks GFS scoring record

In a 17-11 non-league victory over Hun School last Monday, Penn-bound senior Iris Williamson set a new career scoring record in lacrosse for host Germantown Friends.

With the first of her five goals (along with two assists) in the contest, she tied the mark of 196 goals established in 2010 by Betsy Sachs, who is now playing for Bowdoin College in Maine. Williamson was a grade school standout at GFS and made an immediate impact on the varsity squad as a freshman.

During her upper school career, she was frequently called upon to go easy against the Tigers’ weaker opponents; otherwise her scoring total would have been much higher. Of course, she drew a lot of attention from Germantown’s stronger rivals, and could serve as a decoy to free up her teammates. Following the Hun School game, Germantown Friends chalked up league victories over Abington Friends and Shipley to reach an overall record of 11-0 at week’s end.

While Williamson made her college choice many months ago, her GFS classmate Isabella Didio settled upon M.I.T. only recently. A stalwart in both lacrosse and field hockey for the Tigers, Didio plans to play both sports for the Beavers while studying mechanical engineering.
