Georganne Taylor Mears, 79, formerly of Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill, a retired graphic designer who had a long professional career in advertising and marketing, died March 27 at Chestnut Hill Hospital after a long illness. She had been a resident of Montgomery Rehab Center of Chestnut Hill in Wyndmoor for the past two years.

Well known for her creative, management and editorial skills, Ms. Mears specialized in art and photography direction and styling. She had directed the design and production of several award-winning catalogs and, for a time, had been managing editor of a home furnishings magazine.

Before turning to freelance consulting in the 1990s, she had worked for some of Philadelphia’s most prominent advertising agencies, including Thomas Paul Inc., Gray & Rodgers, Mel Richman Inc. and N.W. Ayer, and directed projects for major clients.

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., she received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Douglass College of Rutgers University.

To family and friends she was famous for her gourmet cooking and gracious entertaining.

Ms. Mears is survived by a sister-in-law, Christine Taylor; a niece, and a nephew. A brother, Leland V. Taylor Jr., preceded her in death.

Memorial donations may be made to the Douglass Annual Fund, 181 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick, N.J. 08901-8557. – WF
