For most of his professional career, Mr. Blumberg was a partner at the firm of Litvin, Blumberg, Matusow and Young in Philadelphia, where he represented victims of catastrophic injury.

Long active in the Philadelphia Bar Association, he served on the association’s Board of Governors, as assistant treasurer from 1987 to 1989, and as treasurer from 1990 to 1992. He served for many years on the association’s Professional Guidance and Professional Responsibility committees.

He became a docent at and supporter of the Philadelphia Zoo and was on the board of the Friends of the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter. He was certified by Therapy Dog to work with his beloved dog, Marley, in elementary schools and cancer centers, and he helped to train others.

After Hurricane Katrina, he traveled to work in New Orleans and worked in animal rescue. Until his recent illness, he was a rower at the University Barge Club.

Mr. Blumberg had a vacation home in Barnegat Light, N.J., where he served for many years as an active volunteer fireman and as an officer on the Barnegat Light Taxpayers Association. He was an avid sailor.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Patricia Robinson; nephews Adam and Michael Blumberg, and a brother, Daniel Blumberg.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Germantown Cricket Club, 411 W. Manheim St.
