Anne Wivel Buck, 77, a community volunteer, died Feb. 29 of a neuromuscular disease at her home in Wyndmoor.

Mrs. Buck had long been active in the community as a volunteer for a variety of local organizations. She had been chairwoman of June Fete, a benefit for Abington Hospital, and a chairwoman for the American Heart Association’s annual Chestnut Hill Fundraiser.

She also had volunteered for many years at two local historical sites: Cliveden in Germantown and The Highlands in Fort Washington.

She had also worked part-time as a real estate agent and accountant for businesses in Wyndmoor, Flourtown and Erdenheim.

After starting their family in the Abington area, Mrs. Buck and her husband, the late Richard Edwin Buck, moved to Wyndmoor in 1965.

Raised in Prospect Park and Ridley Park, she was a graduate of Ridley Park High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in English and American literature from Pembroke College of Brown University. As a young woman, she spent summers with her family in Beach Haven, N.J., working at restaurants and sailing with the Spray Beach Yacht Club.

She is survived by sons Richard, of Manchester, Mass., Steven, of Chester Springs, and David, of Broad Axe; daughters Tricia Horter, of Chestnut Hill,Karin, of Ambler, and Lesley, of Mt. Airy; a brother, W. Burns Wivel, of Grasonville, Md., and 18 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Manufacturers’ Golf and Country Club, 511 Dreshertown Road, Fort Washington, with a reception to follow immediately after the service.
