The town of Chestnut Hill will be treated to an energy-packed fashion show, “Rock the Runway,” sponsored by Springside Chestnut Hill Academy’s 60-member Fashion Club on Saturday, March 17, 7 to 9 p.m. Eighteen models will be “styling” creative attire to the theme of Earth, Wind & Fire: “Earth” will encompass browns, tans, greens and the bohemian look; “Wind” will be flowing whites, blues, and cool colors; and “Fire” will represent the standout pieces.

Seen here are Louise Hearn (class of 2010) and David Judd (class of 2011) “strutting their stuff” in SCHA’s 2010 Rock the Runway show. This student-run event raised over $8,000 in 2011 for the Batonga Foundation (benefitting African Female Education), and students aim to raise even more in 2012."][/caption]

This student-run event, which raised over $8,000 in 2011 for the Batonga Foundation (benefitting African female education), will aim to raise more for this year’s event for the American Cancer Society. Co-chair Kendyl Spearing and I have personal reasons for raising money for this charity, as both her father and my mother are cancer survivors. In their honor, and in honor of the many members of the SCH Academy community who have been touched by this disease, we have chosen to donate the proceeds to a specific fund that helps people in the Philadelphia area pay for their treatments.

Rock the Runway has been a very successful event these past two years where students, faculty, parents, grandparents and many more gather to watch a fun and lively show. Aside from the catwalk, it features exclusive dance and musical performances from talented students. You can also purchase our very stylish, very popular RTR shirts and bracelets.

The best way to help us reach our goals will be through monetary donations, so we urge you to contribute, Chestnut Hill! Look for the students to “strut their stuff” with hairstyles from local salons which are kindly donating their work. The models will also show off jewelry donated by Anne Espenshade and menswear donated by Barbara Olson. If you, too, are interested in making a donation for this extraordinary event, please contact Kendyl Spearing at kspearing@sch.org. In addition, if you own or work for a company that would be interested in sponsoring us, our program will be featuring quarter, half and full-page ads.

Rock the Runway 2012 will be held in the Upper School Auditorium, Cherokee Campus, 8000 Cherokee St., Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. Tickets are $8 in advance; $10 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, email kspearing@sch.org.
