During the weekend before Thanksgiving while most kids were gearing up for a vacation from school, 15-year-old Max Perlmutter, of West Mt. Airy, and five of his School of Rock band-mates stepped inside the recording studio at the School of Rock in Philadelphia’s Electric Factory building.
There these six kids spent 15 hours of their time learning and recording a song for the Love Hope Strength Cancer Foundation. Under the direction of Greg Altman, who was responsible for all of the recording, producing, engineering and mixing; Noelle Hoover, the pre-production director; Andre Webb, the vocal coach/arranger, and Craig Waxman the general manager, the teenagers recorded “Love Hope Strength,” written by Mike Peters of a Welsh rock band called The Alarm.
This workshop was a joint venture between the Philadelphia and the Princeton Schools of Rock. The Princeton kids involved were Karaline Rosen on vocals and Ben Fortunato on guitar. The Philadelphia students were Mike Bailer on vocals, Max Perlmutter on bass guitar, Ric Haas on guitar and Tristan Walker on drums.
These kids joined the Download Challenge For Charity with their recording of “Love Hope Strength.” The challenge is to raise the most money for the LHSF. To download the song for 99 cents, visit http://lovehopestrength.org/uncatagorized/sorphiladelphia/ and click on the Philadelphia School of Rock. There is also an option to donate more if you can! 100% of the proceeds go to the foundation. This song is available for worldwide download until January 3, 2012.
Mike Peters co-founded the LHSF in 2007. He is a leukemia survivor and a member of The Alarm. The LHSF is an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to saving lives, one concert at a time. The mission is to save lives, right now, with the advances that have already been made in cancer care.
They do not fund cancer research; rather, they use the funds to build and support cancer centers around the globe, build awareness of global cancer needs and to build international marrow databases through the “Get on the List” campaign. More information at http://lovehopestrength.org/
For more than a decade, School of Rock has been inspiring kids to rock on stage and in life. Visit www.SchoolofRock.com for more information.
