Council Rules Committee votes to send Bowman/Magarity proposal to full Council

Posted

The City Council Rules Committee heard testimony today regarding the Bowman Properties proposal  transform the old Magarity Ford site at 8200 Germantown Ave. into a retail and housing development that would include a Fresh Market grocery store. At least 40 local people attended, according to reports by those present.

The committee voted unanimously to send the proposal -- a bill introduced by Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller to change the property's zoning to allow for the Bowman development -- to City Council for a vote. That vote depends, also, on a recommendation and vote from the City Planning Commission, which is scheduled to review the plan on Tuesday Dec. 13.

Bowman Properties will also appear at a Chestnut Hill Community Association board meeting on Monday, Dec. 12. The board is expected to vote on whether or not it supports the plan. Other local meetings, including tomorrow night's Land Use Planning and Zoning meeting, will likely also feature discussions on the proposal. All CHCA meetings are opent to the public.
