Anna Jean Insinger, 84, formerly of Wyndmoor and Mt. Airy, an employee of Reese’s Pharmacy in Chestnut Hill for nearly four decades, died July 31 at Westminster Village in Allentown, where she had been a resident for the past year.
Mrs. Insinger, who was known to friends as “Jean,” started work at the pharmacy in 1965 as a clerk at the soda fountain. When the pharmacy moved up Germantown Avenue from Willow Grove to Abington Avenue, she remained with the firm, although the soda fountain was discontinued.
When her husband, Howard, died in 1969, Mrs. Insinger accepted a position at McNeil Pharmaceuticals, but she continued to work part-time at Reese’s, where she enjoyed helping customers. She retired from McNeil in 1985, but stayed on at the pharmacy until 2002.
While living in Mt. Airy from 1947 to 1961, she and her husband were active members of Mt. Airy Methodist Church. Mrs. Insinger volunteered at bazaars, soup sales and the delivery of flowers to the infirm, and was an assistant leader of Girl Scout Troop 280.
Mrs. Insinger is survived by daughters Barbara and Susan; a sister, Margie; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. – WF
