Looking forward?
I look forward to Bowman Properties’ redevelopment of the Magarity site, have great respect for Runyan & Associates’ architectural work on it and hope the prospect of a Fresh Market a couple doors down spurs the imagination of Weavers Way about how to bring down high prices.
I can’t wrap my head around why zoning changes would not be able to go through the regular zoning process, but I do understand how Bowman’s representative, Ballard Spahr attorney and former candidate for Philadelphia’s 4th District council seat, Matt McClure, would find getting City Council to pass legislation down in City Hall a lot less troublesome than dealing with the Magarity neighbors.

Janet Gilmore does it again!
Another great column by Janet Gilmore (No ‘Soccer Mom,’ but she knows opposing players ‘Suck!’ July 7 issue). I love the idea that soccer could be hard to understand. I think Janet should start calling sport-babble radio shows and complaining.

Beware of phony Appeals for help
I would like to alert readers of the Local to a current scam. Today I received an email from a name I did not recognize, asking for money. Here is what it said, word for word:
“Hope you get this on time, I made a trip to London, England, and had my bag stolen from me with my passport and personal effects therein. The embassy is willing to help by letting me fly without my passport. I just have to pay for a ticket and settle hotel bills. Unfortunately for me, I can’t have access to funds.
“I’ve made contact with my bank, but they need more time to come up with a new one. I was thinking of asking you to lend me some quick funds that I can give back as soon as I get in. I really need to be on the next available flight. I can forward you details on how you can get the funds to me. I await your response...”

(Ed. Note: Recently many people in Chestnut Hill received an email message almost identical to this one from a woman who has written articles for the Local over the years. When we called the woman in question, she said she had not been to London and had certainly not sent the email. It turned out that somebody had hacked into her email account and sent the phony appeal for money to everyone in her email address book. She had to get a new email address, of course. So beware of these phony appeals for your money.)
