Annette Coar Kane, 88, formerly of Wyndmoor and Flourtown, a women’s golf champion, died of emphysema Jan. 29 at her home in Ambler.

Mrs. Kane had been a Philadelphia Women’s Amateur Champion, a Pennsylvania State Champion and a runner-up in the North-South Women’s Championship. She had also won some amateur professional championships with her first teacher and longtime golf pro George Fazio.

She played in club team matches for more than 30 years, in inter-city team matches for more than 25 years, and was president of the Women’s Eastern Golf Association in the 1950s and 1970s.

A life member for 70 years of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club and a former member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, she captured innumerable club championships.

Born in Wyndmoor, Mrs. Kane was the daughter of Frank W. and Helen R. Coar, both of whom were golfers. She graduated from Springfield High School and attended Chestnut Hill College, where she started the golf team.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Blakely Kane; a son, James Andrew Kane, of North Wales; a daughter, Gretchen Gessler Schuler, of Wayland, Mass.; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Feb. 4 at the Church of the Messiah in Gwynedd.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 701 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19123. – WF
