Pamela Wells Dudley

Pamela Wells Dudley, 79, of The Hill at Whitemarsh, a community volunteer who operated the Chestnut Hill Dancing School, died of complications from pneumonia Dec. 11 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Dudley, formerly of Wyndmoor, operated the dancing school for about a decade. An avid tennis and squash player, she chaired the Girls United States National Grass Tennis Tournament at the Philadelphia Cricket Club for many years.

She also was a volunteer for more than 25 years at Chestnut Hill Hospital, visiting Alzheimer’s patients as a member of the Care Giver Support Group for Alzheimer’s patients.

Born in England, she was raised in Darien, Conn. and attended Mt. Holyoke College.

She was an avid gardener and animal lover.

Mrs. Dudley’s husband, Robert M. Dudley, died one day after the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary in 2004.

She is survived by her son Robert M. Dudley, Jr. and his wife Jennifer, her daughter Linda Dudley Mutch and her husband John C. Mutch, III, her grandchildren Carson, Andy and Robbie and her brother Stephen Wells and his wife Andrea Wells of New Canaan, Conn.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, 8000 St. Martin’s Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19118.

Memorial donations may be made to the Music and Performing Arts Programs (The CHASS Players), Chestnut Hill Academy, 500 W. Willow Grove Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118, to The Church of Saint-Martin-in-the-Fields, Willow Grove and St. Martin's Lane, Phila., PA 19118 or to the Amy Wells Unlimited Possibilities Fund, St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Kids, 29-01, 216th St., Bayside, NY 11360, or to the above church. – WF

Sylvia B. Lorenzon

Sylvia B. Lorenzon, 97, died December 9, 2010 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Bongiovanni) Bosco, she was the wife of Reno V. Lorenzon who died in 1969. She moved to Lancaster in 1994 and had lived at MeadowRidge at Willow Valley for the past 2 years. Survivors include daughters Gloria (Edward) Shelmerdine of North Carolina; Linda (James) Kopf of Lancaster; Susan (Hansell “Hank”) Wade of Limerick. Also five grandchildren: Kirk (Juliana) and Thomas (Jan) Shelmerdine all of North Carolina; Jennifer (Ad Crable) Kopf, Amy (David) Finnegan, both of Lancaster and Emily (Robert) Cassidy of Delaware. Step grandchildren Bret, Theron and Greg Wade, Dallas Schurr and Kelsey Herman all of the Philadelphia area. Sylvia is also survived by great grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Joseph, James and William Boscoe. A Memorial Service, followed by a reception, will be held on Saturday, Decemeber 18th at 2pm at MeadowRidge at Willow Valley in Lancaster, PA. Funeral services and internment at Ivy Hill Cementery and Chapel will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brunner Foundation Nursing Education Fund, Attn: June Draude, Willow Valley Retirement Community, 600 Willow Valley Sq., Lancaster, PA 17802.
