On a beautiful fall afternoon last Saturday, the Blueberries defeated the Crasins 2-0 to win the 2010 championship of the Girls U-13 Intramural Soccer League of the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club.

The Blueberries, who finished second to the Craisins during the nine-match regular season, scored in each half of the match while controlling the ball throughout the match.  Each team advanced to the finals by recording wins via penalty kicks in semi-final matches held earlier in the day.

In the first match of the day, the Crasins out-shot the Green Mambas on penalty kicks after playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation and two overtime periods. The Blueberries followed the pattern, knocking off the Hornets in penalty kicks after playing to at 1-1 tie.

This year the league increased its format of play to a near full-sized field, and the girls showed outstanding development over the course of the year. The leagues’ four teams were well balanced and competition improved week-by-week. The league is very popular and continued success is envisioned for next year.
